Millburn Two-Level Rear Addition | WA Construct

The owners of this gambrel-roof Dutch Colonial in Millburn, NJ loved their home's character but had run out of usable space. A low basement with roughly five-foot ceilings sat unused, the attic was wasted square footage, and a compartmentalized main floor felt dark and closed off.

WA Construct designed and built a two-level rear addition to expand the home, then went further to reclaim space it already had. The basement was underpinned and excavated from five feet to a full eight feet of ceiling height, turning a crawl-height level into finished living space with a recreation room and laundry. The attic was converted into a complete additional floor — a vaulted, skylit loft with a new full bathroom. On the main level, load-bearing walls were opened up to create a bright, connected kitchen and great room.

The result is a home transformed on every level: an open-concept main floor with a two-tone kitchen, a brand-new top-floor space under the gambrel roof, a full-height finished basement, and a series of transitional bathrooms with on-trend finishes. The project adds significant, functional square footage while preserving the home's classic Millburn curb appeal — a complete design-build transformation by WA Construct.
